A Thermador wine column is a full-height built-in with two independently set zones and a glass door, installed flush with cabinetry. Because it is built in, everything about servicing it is harder: the unit has to come out on rails, the venting is at the top or bottom of the cabinet run, and any airflow mistake made by the installer is permanent until someone opens the cabinet again.

The most useful thing to know about these columns is that the display is not measuring your wine. It reports an air sensor. When a customer says the column reads 55 and a bottle thermometer says 62, both instruments are usually telling the truth about different things, and the job is to find out which one has drifted and which one is reporting a real airflow problem.

Each zone has its own air path. A stalled fan takes that zone out while the other one keeps working, which people report as "half the fridge is broken".
The glass door frame is heated to keep the seal above dew point. An open heater gives fog on the glass and standing water at the bottom of the door.
Columns need a specified free area at the top or bottom of the cabinet. Trim carpentry that closes it off produces a unit that runs continuously and never reaches the lower zone temperature.
Thermador parts come through the BSH channel. Sensors, fans and door components are normally available; some column-specific assemblies are ordered to the serial number.
Genuine OEM parts where the manufacturer supports the model, and a specification-matched equivalent where they do not — told to you before it is fitted.
Either the zone fan, a restricted air path, or the cabinet venting. On built-in columns the venting is worth checking before anything is replaced, because it is free to check and expensive to ignore.

Model, what the panel says, and what a thermometer on the shelf says. That is usually enough to know what we are walking into.
Both zones of the Allavino locked to the same temperature no matter what we set. He diagnosed a failed damper motor in the upper zone, replaced it, and then had me run the unit for a week before he was willing to call it done.
Upper zone would not go below sixty-two no matter what. Solenoid valve stuck. He carried the part and had it done in one visit, which I did not expect for a Cavavin.
Our EuroCave held the lower zone fine but the upper zone crept to the low sixties. He put a probe in on the shelf, watched it through a cycle, and showed me the upper evaporator fan was stalling. Fan swapped, both zones now sit where they are set. He also explained why the door display and the shelf temperature never read the same.
