You set 45 and 58 and get 52 and 52. Before anyone talks about a compressor, the question is which of three dual-zone architectures is in your cabinet — because that decides what the fault can be.

Manufacturers do not advertise which one you bought. It is the single most useful thing to establish, because it turns a vague fault into a specific part.
The commonest and cheapest arrangement. A single cold source feeds both zones through a motorised damper that opens and closes. The zones cannot be set far apart — typically no more than about twelve degrees — and when the damper motor fails both zones collapse to the same temperature.

A step up. One compressor feeds two evaporator circuits through a solenoid valve. Zones separate further and behave more independently. A stuck valve takes out exactly one zone and leaves the other perfect.

Found on Liebherr Vinidor and a few high-end columns. Each zone has its own compressor circuit and its own control, so one can be switched off entirely while the other runs. A dead zone here is a dead circuit and is repaired as such.

A meaningful share of dual-zone calls are not faults. Cold air has to move for a zone to hold its number, and a cabinet packed hard against the rear wall stops it moving. On a high-capacity cabinet with tilted display racking, a full load leaves almost no air channel at the back, and the result is a cold evaporator plate and a warm zone — exactly what a failing damper looks like from the kitchen.
The other common non-fault is expectation. Ask a damper-fed cabinet for twenty degrees of separation and it will not deliver it, ever, no matter how many parts get replaced. We check the architecture and tell you what the machine is capable of before anyone spends money on it.
The third is placement. A cabinet with one zone against a warm wall, a dishwasher or a west-facing window has an external heat load on that zone only, and it will read consistently warmer than the other. That is a room problem with a room fix.
It depends on the architecture. A damper-fed cabinet realistically holds about ten to twelve degrees of separation. A valve-fed or twin-circuit cabinet can do far more. If you are asking for 42 and 62 out of a damper cabinet, the machine cannot do it and nothing is broken.
Very unlikely. A failing compressor makes both zones warm, not both zones equal. Two zones locked together points at the damper or its control, which is a defined and usually affordable part.
On most of them, yes — set both zones the same and it behaves as one cabinet at 55°F. That is a reasonable stopgap while a damper part is on order, and it is what we usually suggest.
Whichever the manufacturer designed as the warmer one, which is usually the top on damper-fed cabinets because cold air falls. Setting it the other way round makes the machine fight itself and widens the drift.
If you actually serve whites and sparkling from it, yes. If everything in it is long-term storage, a single-zone cabinet at 55°F is simpler, holds temperature better and has one fewer thing to break.

What each zone is set to, what each zone actually reads, and the model from the plate inside the door. That is usually enough to name the part before we arrive.
Upper zone would not go below sixty-two no matter what. Solenoid valve stuck. He carried the part and had it done in one visit, which I did not expect for a Cavavin.
Vinotemp dual zone in a Pacific Heights flat that had started buzzing loudly enough to hear from the next room. It was the compressor mounting grommets, which had gone hard. He replaced them and rebalanced the unit on the floor. Quiet again, and he did not try to sell me a new cooler.
Two coolers at our place in Napa, both running warm. He found one had a genuine fault and the other was simply overloaded with bottles packed against the evaporator plate. He fixed the first and rearranged the second, and only charged for the one that needed work.
