U-Line is the brand you find under the counter in Bay Area kitchens, and almost all of it is front-vented — the condenser breathes through the toe-kick grille at the bottom of the door. That single design choice is behind most of the U-Line calls we take. Cover the grille with a decorative panel, or let it pack with dust and pet hair, and the unit will run continuously and never reach set point while every component in it tests good.

The newer Class series units use R600a isobutane and a variable-speed compressor, which changes the diagnostic picture. They are quieter, they run longer cycles by design, and a customer who is used to an older unit cycling on and off will call the long run time a fault when it is not.
The most common U-Line fault and not a component failure at all. If the cabinetmaker fitted a solid toe-kick in front of the grille, the unit has never had a chance. We measure the condenser discharge temperature to prove it.
It runs whenever the compressor runs, which on a built-in in a warm kitchen is most of the day. Bearings go, the fan slows, head pressure rises, and the unit loses the bottom four or five degrees of its range first.
On two-zone Wine Captain models a single evaporator feeds both zones through a motorised damper. When the motor fails, both zones lock to the same temperature and the panel accepts settings it cannot deliver.
The tray sits over the compressor so the heat evaporates the water. A blocked drain line backs the water up into the cabinet floor, which people report as a leak.
U-Line parts support is among the best in the category, including for units fifteen years old. Genuine OEM fans, dampers, boards and gaskets are normally available.

Check the grille first. A blocked front vent produces exactly that symptom on a healthy unit. On a Class-series unit with a variable-speed compressor, long quiet run times are also normal behaviour.
Yes, that is the point of front venting — but only if the grille at the front is genuinely open. Zero clearance at the back is fine. Zero airflow at the front is not.

Zephyr under-counter making an intermittent rattle. He tracked it to the evaporator fan blade catching a piece of loose insulation, not a bearing, which is what I had been told elsewhere. Ten minute fix and honest about it being a ten minute fix.
We had a Wine Enthusiast unit that had never worked properly since it was installed. He found the front-vent path had been blocked by a false toe-kick panel and the unit had been slowly cooking itself. Rebuilt the airflow path and it has been fine ever since.
The cooler in our bar area was running hot because it had been built into a cabinet with no ventilation gap at the back. He documented it, cut a rear vent with the cabinetmaker, and the compressor now cycles instead of running continuously. That was the actual fix.
